Man Utd ‘hoping to convince Jonny Evans to stay as tighter-than-usual transfer budget is revealed’

United are interested in two Ligue 1 centre-backs

MANCHESTER UNITED are hoping they can convince Jonny Evans to pen a new deal at the club, according to reports.

The 36-year-old re-signed for the Red Devils on a one-year deal after training with the club as a free agent last summer.

Evans was set to play a bit-part role but featured 30 times following an injury crisis.

His contract has now expired – but Man Utd remain in talks with him over a new one-year deal.

The Athletic report that Old Trafford chiefs are keen to tie him down amid a tight transfer budget.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe are hoping for a net spend of just £50million this summer.

And Man Utd do not want to lose more defenders after already seeing centre-back Raphael Varane leave.

As they try to not splash the cash, the club reportedly made a late move for Tosin Adarabioyo.

But the 26-year-old had already agreed to make the short journey across West London from Fulham to Chelsea on a free.

Man Utd remain keen on Lille wonderkid Leny Yoro and Nice ace Jean-Clair Todibo.

Yoro, 18, could cost £51m and he is also on the radar of Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Todibo, 24, is a long-term target thought to be valued at £35m.

Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite remains a potential arrival as the Toffees have to put every player up for sale after 777 Partners’ deal to buy them fell through, putting them in danger of going into administration.
