We shared the rules on living in a shed
A MUM has shared how she built her son his own room in the garden and people are saying it’s so great he’ll “never leave.”
The woman shared how the summerhouse has its own bed and snack station – and even has heating for winter.
On her @jlmcccue account, the mum shared: “My 12 year old is lucky enough to have his own summerhouse.”
She constructed it in 2021 as it was “way cheaper” than getting her loft converted.
The woman shared: “It’s cool in summer & hold heat in summer it’s properly insulated.
“This wasn’t the original use for it but circumstances have changed.
“[It’s all] built correctly, all insulated etc proper electrics & heating.”
The 24 x14 foot house has been decked out for her son with a double bed and sofa.
There’s also a TV and a kitchen area, complete with a fridge, cereal dispensers and snack baskets.
While the outhouse looked to be a chic and comfortable space, it is lacking one thing – a flushing toilet.
The mum shared how they have installed a compost toilet for now but she would like to add a full bathroom in the future.
Meanwhile for safety, she installed an alarm, smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher.

One said: “He’s never moving out of home.”
Another added: “My daughter would love this.”
And a third commented: “I’m 30 and I want this lol.”
According to shed manufacturer Waltons: “To sleep in a shed or garden room, it must comply with Building Regulations.
“These control the quality of the building’s structure, the materials used and ensure that it’s safe for sleeping in.
“Building regulations control the standards and safety of all living accommodation, including ancillary bedrooms in garage conversions or outbuildings.”
Meanwhile, Which? added: “You may need planning permission for your proposed garden room if you intend to use it for activities that you would usually do in your main home, such as showering or cooking.”
