Want more baby name stories? Watch the above clip on a moniker that divided the internet
A WOMAN has revealed that she hates her son’s name so much that she can’t bring herself to call him it.
Not only this, but the first-time mother explained that she hasn’t posted anything on social media about her child’s arrival, as she’s too embarrassed by his moniker.
Sharing her story on Reddit, the mum-of-one stated that it was her boyfriend that ended up choosing their son’s name.
Posting on the TrueOffMyChest forum, the woman explained that she wasn’t sure if she was ‘overreacting’, but a month after her son’s arrival, she is still struggling to accept her little darling’s name.
Opening up on the community sharing platform, the anonymous woman admitted: “I hate my baby’s name.”
She then explained: “I’m not sure if I’m overreacting, I am wondering if this is a hill worth dying on.”
The 28-year-old female revealed: “I had just given birth about a month ago to a healthy baby boy, and I absolutely hate his name.”
She shared that her boyfriend Emmett, whom she has been with for five years and has plans to get married to, was overjoyed when they found out that she was pregnant.
The woman continued: “Once I began talking about family, he immediately bombarded me with names that he would name our BOY.
“I too had ideas which he quickly shut down (he had no preference for girls).
“He began to list names that belonged to grandpa and great-grandpa, Oliver and Chad.
“I HATE the name Chad, we know a couple of Chads, they are not great people. I also don’t love the name Oliver but I’d rather that than Chad.”
The woman explained that her partner is “very sentimental”, as she added: “He was adamant on the name Chad because it belonged to his dad’s grandpa, whom his dad has never met due to the war.
“I asked him to compromise and make Chad the middle name because I’d rather Oliver. He’d say maybe but with a “no” tone.”
After 13 hours of labour, the mother explained that she welcomed her baby boy into the world, and waited until she was “relaxed” before she signed the birth certificate.
But she then added: “And when we did, I saw his name ‘Chad Beau Smith’. I had no say in that name whatsoever.
“I ended up fighting with Emmett for an hour or so and then just gave up.
“He smirked as he handed his birth certificate in. I was just too tired to fight anymore, I felt like I just needed to focus on taking care of my baby.
“Now it’s been a month I’ve been avoiding saying his name, I’d call him “baby Beau”, “Boo”, “baby”. I can’t bring myself to call him Chad.
“I also didn’t post anything on social media because I just hate the name.
“I also felt like I’m disconnecting from this relationship because after all that Emmett has watched me go through I felt that I don’t matter.”
The woman then asked: “Am I overreacting?”
REDDIT USERS REACT
Reddit users were keen to share their thoughts on the situation in the comments.
Whilst many urged the mother to change her child’s name, others were appalled by her partner’s behaviour.
One person said: “You can have it changed. It’s not too late.”
Another added: “If it’s not too late to change the baby’s name then change the baby’s name.
“This will cost you your relationship but realistically you’re heading that way anyway.”
A third commented: “Wow! He’s awful! If it was me, I would change his name and leave his a**.”
At the same time, one woman penned: “It’s time to grow a backbone, my love. Red flags are waving in your face big time!
“He took advantage of you right after you gave birth, and he did it with a smile on his face. I’d reconsider getting married to this man.”
Meanwhile, someone else advised: “Give him a nickname. I have a friend named Elton and he goes by Skip.”
Not only this, but another Reddit user recommended: “Call him whatever you want. Doesn’t matter if it’s his official name.”
