Demand for the production is so low, seat prices for the next two weeks have gone from £54 to £15 and £108 to £20
GAVIN and Stacey star Ruth Jones’ new show has been forced to call in a seat filling service after failing to sell out.
Ruth, 57, who plays Mother Superior in the West End show, recently extended her run in Sister Act until 3rd August – but tickets have already been slashed by 80%.
Demand for the production is so low, seat prices for the next two weeks have plummeted from £54 to £15 and £108 to £20.
Tonight’s performance at the Dominion Theatre even has 700 seats available for purchase, despite a capacity of just 2,069.
The actress, of course, is known for her role as best friend Nessa Jenkins in the beloved BBC sitcom.
Her new character couldn’t be further from the randy goth she is used to playing, with Ruth donning a habit in her latest role.
In her big announceent, an excited Ruth shared last year: “I’m proper chuffed to be making my West End debut in Sister Act next March playing the legendary Mother Superior at the Dominion Theatre.
“It’s a crackin’ role and a crackin’ show. Who knew wearing a habit could feel so fabulous! I can’t wait!”
Other A-listers starring in the new play include Olivier Award winner Beverley Knight and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.
The musical is based on the comedy film Sister Act, which follows a nightclub singer as she is put in a convent for witness protection.
Deloris has frequent run-ins with Mother Superior over her licentious behaviour, but also finds her place among the nuns by jazzing up the church choir with her musical talent.
At least Ruth’s sitcom pals, James Corden, Alison Steadman and Rob Brydon, turned up and supported her on the opening night.
