A technique helps prevent glove odor and bacteria build-up
A GARDENER has shared the glove storage hack that prevents dangerous run-ins with bugs.
Viewers, however, were worried about the potential stench.
Redditor Cantorgreen shared the gardening tip in a viral post.
“Gardener tip: store your gloves in an air-tight container to keep bugs from snuggling in,” they said.
They showed off the plastic container they used to safely keep their trust gardening gloves.
After a chilling run-in with a critter, they explained that they had to adapt to protect themselves.
“I rarely put on gloves while gardening because I’m afraid of spiders (I live in Texas). This is a great idea,” said one commenter.
“I’m from Texas. I started containing my gloves after an encounter with a brown recluse,” the Redditor replied.
“But I’m big on wearing gloves because I think it’s important to protect my hands.”
“I used to work for engineering companies who did a lot of work in refineries in Louisiana,” said another viewer.
“Our safety guy taught us to always take your gloves and whap them really hard against the wall or another hard object to kill anything that might have crawled inside.
“Black widows are a big problem there, and they like the warm little hiding places against pipes and t banks that have to be heated to do whatever process is happening there.
“He claims to have had several employees lose fingers to brown recluse bites or Black Widow bites over the years because they didn’t listen. I always do it, even at home.”
Many viewers were grateful for their handy little trick.
“This is genius! my husband didn’t shake out his gloves this weekend and ended up with two spider bites!” said one.
“Having once put my hand in a glove that had an earwig in it, and I am terrified of earwigs,” said another.
“I approve of this tip! It was about two and a half decades ago, and I have never forgotten. I hate putting on gloves to this day and often just don’t and deal with all the dirt under my nails instead.”
“Damn. This is brilliant! I always shake my garden gloves and then stomp on them to get rid of anything in there (we have Black Widows here). This is a much better idea,” said a third.
While they were proud of their inexpensive trick, more experienced gardeners raised concerns about other issues the tip may present.
“This is a bad idea unless you live in the Atacama desert and don’t ever sweat,” said one.
“Humidity of any sort will grow bacteria and mold 100% of the time.”
“If you want smelly gloves, follow this one simple trick,” agreed another.
The Redditor, however, makes sure to prep their gloves beforehand to keep the smells at bay.
“This is true. I air dry my gloves before I put them in the container,” they replied.
