And how to avoid chafing
STRAWBERRY legs and ingrown hairs can be avoided using an effective body scrub, says an esthetician.
She revealed the beauty products she swears by for smooth hair removal at home.
Grace Day is a beauty expert and esthetician at the global online cosmetics retailer Beauty Bay.
Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared must-try skincare tips.
SMOOTH SHAVE
Strawberry legs are a preventable yet surprisingly common reaction to home hair removal.
Day revealed why the unsightly skin condition may appear.
“Strawberry legs is a term used to describe the small dark spots that sometimes appear on your legs after shaving and resemble the seeds of strawberries,” she said.
“These are enlarged hair follicles which have become clogged with buildup – usually keratin, dead skin cells, oil, or bacteria – that oxidizes (turns black) when exposed to air.
“Like ingrown hairs, this is best prevented by regularly exfoliating and shaving with a clean, sharp razor.”
She shared product recommendations that can help to avoid skin issues when shaving.
“I’d recommend the Sol De Janeiro Bum Bum Scrub for a gentle but effective treatment to banish ingrown hairs,” she said.
“Or, the Fur KP Body Scrub is brilliant for buffing away keratin buildup and reducing redness and irritation.
“Try the Mallows Beauty Razor for a close shave.
“Featuring soothing aloe vera and nourishing vitamin E lubricating strips, it’s extremely gentle on even the most sensitive skin, with a rubber grip to ensure a no-slip shave.”
Day said it’s important to moisturize after shaving as the skin has been “stripped” of nourishment.
“The Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is amazing for use all over the body – and smells amazing, too,” she said.
“The Fur Stubble Cream is ideal for use on intimate areas, as its formula softens stubble regrowth and prevents thick, coarse regrowth post-shave, soothing the skin beautifully.”
CHEERIO CHAFING
Day said “everyone” has experienced the pain of chafing during summer.
The sore rashes left by friction between the thighs can take some time to heal.
“I’d recommend investing in a product like the Megababe Thigh Rescue Anti-Friction Stick,” she said.
“The balm creates a barrier that sits atop the skin and allows thighs to glide smoothly against each other.
“Similarly, the BeYou Anti-Chafing Cream provides long-lasting protection against chafing, with an antibacterial, non-greasy formula that soothes and repairs irritated skin.
“Carry one in your bag this summer to ensure you’ve banished the thigh rub for good.”
